We put a film
positive and the screen together and expose the mesh to ultra-violet light
which hardens the emulsion except where it is shielded by the image on the
film. The screen is then washed off to remove all the emulsion that has not
been hardened by the ultra-violet light. This leaves an open stencil which
is exactly the same as the image that was on the film.
